N10-House: A Modern Architectural Marvel

Masahiko Sato's Award-Winning Residential Design

Located in the heart of Fukuoka City, the N10-House is a residential architectural project that stands out for its unique design and innovative use of space. The design was inspired by the desire to create a home where a family can enjoy quality time together, feel safe, and take pride in their living space. The house is strategically situated on a slightly elevated hill site in a high-density housing area, offering a panoramic view of the surrounding environment.

The N10-House is characterized by its modern design and sense of three-dimensionality. This is achieved by highlighting the terrace and entrance wall with red cedar and tile finish, and by giving a white color finish to the parapet and half wall that extrudes 2 meters away from the inner wall. The use of tempered glass as partition elements in the entrance hall and living dining area on the second floor brings a sense of openness to the whole space.

One of the unique features of the N10-House is the cross pattern indirect lighting on the ceiling that runs through the wall down to the floor. This, together with the indirect lighting of the kitchen counter, creates a modern ambiance in the room. The red cedar finishes on one part of the wall in the living dining spaces give a sense of unity with the external appearance, adding to the overall composure of the house.

Upon entering the house, one is greeted by a big window through which tender light penetrates from the outside, along with vegetation that welcomes the family and guests. The first floor is composed of a parking area and a private room. The red cedar wall and stairs cantilevered on it create a warm and gentle space, with indirect lighting coming from the bottom part of the handrail producing an overall ambiance of the space.
